The government has just confirmed 331 schools have been awarded a share of £45 million in Phase 2 of the School-Based Nursery Capital Grant. If your school is one of them, your nursery needs to be open by September 2026, so now is the time to plan and fit out your space.
The grant can be used for:
- Nursery furniture, storage and shelving
- Sensory play equipment
- Outdoor play spaces, canopies and fencing
- Refurbishment and building works
Looking further ahead? Phase 3 is coming - backed by almost £325 million running from 2027 to 2030. Local authorities must submit their proposals to DfE on behalf of schools, with a deadline of 30 September 2026.If you want your school included, you need to contact your local authority now and make the case for your project before they finalise their plans.
